Cosy and Comfortable by the Seaside

Welcome to Sunrays Cottage, a charming family holiday home in West Mersea.

Originally owned by our great-grandmother, the cottage has remained in the family ever since. Dating from the 1930s, it is a wonderful time capsule filled with period character and original features, while also offering the modern conveniences needed for a comfortable stay.

Sunrays is ideal for families, couples and guests travelling with pets. The cottage is set within its own spacious, fully enclosed garden, providing a secure outdoor space for young children and dogs to enjoy. The garden features a lawn, mature fruit trees, a patio, barbecue and a large outdoor dining table, making it perfect for relaxed meals and warm evenings outside.

The beach and marina are within easy walking distance. Guests can enjoy coastal walks, explore the waterfront or try traditional crab fishing from the shore, with any crabs carefully returned to the water afterwards. West Mersea also offers a selection of welcoming pubs, cafés and restaurants, including excellent local seafood.

Relax in comfort

Our cosy living room has plenty of room for everyone with three sofas, one of which is a high quality sofa bed. The sitting room is a wonderful quiet space to take a break, read a book, or even watch TV. Decorated in a classic seaside style, with persian style rugs and warm wooden floors, it’s a perfect place to relax after a day at the beach. There is even warming stove (electric these days!) for you to use if the day has been a little chilly.

Sleep sound

The cottage has two bedrooms, both with comfortably sized double beds and plenty of storage space for two people in each room. Windows onto the garden let in plenty of light, and each room has its own heaters to keep you warm and cosy at night.

The kitchen is the heart of the home

A warm and inviting kitchen is always a pleasure, and the beautiful red dresser in our kitchen has stood there for over one hundred years and seen countless family meals.

The table will comfortably seat everyone in the house and the well appointed kitchen allows you to cook up anything you want to.

There is a dishwasher, a washer/dryer , and all the normal appliances and comforts you would expect to have in a real home-from-home.

Ideal for a beach holiday for the whole family - including your pets!

There is a welcoming hall with a full size door mat, just right for getting sandy feet clean before coming inside! There is plenty of room for boots and coats to be taken off and space for dog beds and anything else you need to tidy away before relaxing.

The bathroom has a full size bath and a full height shower with a proper glass shower panel to keep things dry and easy to clean. There is even a foot stool for little ones to reach the sink. The heated towel rail will keep your towels warm and cosy.

The mature and well sized garden is fully enclosed, making it safer for your children and pets to run around outside. We welcome pet owners and hope you will find the house is ideal for you and all the family.
